Close Season Depression

Posted by gravy , 09 July 2011 · 288 views

Why oh why is the close season so long, it must have been about 20 weeks since the season finished.  I've barely got by a mediocre diet of U21 football, a rain affected Test series, an up and down and back up again ODI series an enthralling front to back US Open win for Little Mac.  God forbid, I even nearly watched Tennis (nah no close season is that long).  It's nice to see some things don't change in a close season, Fabregas still wants to leave, Wenger still won't sign anyone, Tevez wants to move closer to his family, well I suppose Madrid is closer to Argentina than Manchester  KinKenny is signing domestic players as if they are going out of fashion,  is he that out of touch he still thinks the 3 foreigner rule counts.  Sunderland have so far signed a whole new team, Man Utd have signed 3 good players but have they really made themselves better.  Newcastle have sold their top players mooted naming rights on St James Park and replaced the old players with ones with injury records.  City now have £350k's worth of LBs and 4 million players in the first team squad.  We have done our usual get linked with everyone but done business for no one.  We wanted Hiddink to replace Ancelotti, but Turkey said No.  So we looked around and found a replacement in a young lad younger than most of our ageing squad 18 months into his managerial career.  So at least we have our man at the helm now (but for how long :doh )

Training must have started now as Essien is injured again   but we are only weeks away from the joys of the Asia Cup, the Irish Cup and all these high quality pre season tournaments that no body really gives a shit about, apart from Wenger who will contend himself with winning the Emirates Cup at home again.  But the start line is within sight as we are only a month or so away from real football again, the transfer window will then be shutting and we will pay £40million for Modric which we should have done in early July and just got it out of the way, instead of letting him have a pre season with us and not start the season with them shitehawks.  Fabregas won't go to Barca and will declare he didn't really want to go anyway, Tevez will have signed his new £500k a week contract and decide that he never wanted to leave City.  But one thing for sure is the beer will be flowing again, although not for us in the So bar as some complete cock has turned it into a Polynesian themed bar.

But the game will be on again well and truly, the old cliches will be being bandied around again especially by the MOTD pundits but one thing is for sure we will all be brother (and sisters) in arms again swallowed up by our clubs and making plans about what to do and when to go to games or watch at home or in the pub.  Should I do a Poll to add to this entry, but what should it be, Who will win the league, Who's going down, Who's first to be sacked, Who is next for an injunction, Who gives a shit really just let the football commence and let the depression stop.

I'd forgotten our Blog section (we really should work out how to show there are new blogs to be read).

It was such a plaintive blog too and one we can all relate to in one way or another. You stated Newcastle's case very commendably although our current position belies belief and involves me pinching myself on a regular basis. Still, there's a long way to go yet and we cannot be the refs pets for too much longer can we?

No doubt as Chelsea's return to SJP looms ever closer, we can expect a little cold snap with many feet of snow blanketing our pavements, teasing doubts as to the viability of the game but we know the approaches to the ground will be invitingly open and the Bodega will once again be a warm haven for our intrepid opponents.
